Fruit Salad, Dorothy's monthly queer open mic night returns with ten open mic opportunities and an incredible feature performer!
Fruit Salad is Dorothy's monthly queer open mic night! Hosted by Rainn, this open mic night gives performers the chance to share their work in front of our supportive & gorgeous group of attendees before we hand it over to our feature performers of the night.
Our open mic sign up is based on a lottery system! Attendees will get a link immediately after purchasing a ticket to sign up for the open mic until Friday July 12th. Five open mic slots are reserved for BIPOC performers and the other five slots are open for all submissions...
After our open mic for the evening, we welcome our feature and Fruit Salad open mic regular - Kaitlyn Griffith!
Kaitlyn Griffith is an archivist whose work centers people’s history. She teaches at Dominican University, connecting students to the Free ‘Em All Radio oral history archive, a joint project between Chairman Fred Hampton Jr., the Black Panther Party Cubs, and The Lady of Rage. As a volunteer at Gerber/Hart, Kaitlyn is working on a living collection with Dorothy to preserve video recordings of live performances. Collections like this defend queer history and identity in the face of drag bans, censorship, and revisionist history. Storytelling and queer connection are what get Kaitlyn out of bed in the morning, so she is honored to give and receive both at Dorothy.
Entry is $15 and proceeds are shared with the performers, the production team, our home base Dorothy and our giveback organization for this month chosen by Kaitlyn.
Doors for the evening open at 6:45pm and our show starts at 7:30pm. Performers should arrive by 7:15pm at the latest and check in with our host to be guaranteed their slot. Our feature follows after intermission. Stay for late night happy hour after our feature until 11pm!
Dorothy is 21+ and requires a physical ID for entry. Dorothy is also ADA accessible. If you are a guest who requires elevator access, please wait on Campbell Avenue near the double doors and call 773-770-3799 and our staff will be up to assist.
COVID PRECAUTIONS FOR THIS SHOW
Fruit Salad has transitioned to an every-other-month mask required event. This month's event is mask required for guests and open mic performers. Our feature performer has the option to be masked or maskless during their performance. All guests are encouraged to test themselves 24-48 hours prior to the event. We have an on site air purifier, hand sanitizer and a limited amount of masks to hand out to guests.
