Biographical / Historical
Start your New Year off strong with Indigo Sessions, bringing together Black Femme talent, flourishing without barriers. Indigo Sessions is a collective show series, founded by Aliyah Jones, created to highlight the artistry of Black Women and Femmes. Inspired by her own experiences and the noticeable absence of spaces that truly uplift and celebrate Black Women in the arts, Aliyah envisioned the series to embody a sanctuary where Our voices and stories could not only be heard but also nurtured. Indigo Sessions is driven by a mission to showcase the incredible talent of Black Women and Femmes and foster a community where their artistry can flourish without barriers. Through the intimate showcases, Indigo hopes to provide a platform for exploratory art, dialogue, and community. Doors open at 6pm and guests can enjoy happy hour until the show begins at 7pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and $17 at the door. Dorothy remains open after the show until last call at 11pm. Dorothy is 21+ and requires physical ID to enter. Dorothy is also ADA accessible with elevator access on Campbell Ave. If you are a guest who requires elevator access, please wait by the black door with our logo in the window on Campbell Ave and call our staff to assist: 773-770-3799 Please note: refund requests are only accepted until 24h before the show (1/5, 7pm). No other refund requests will be accepted. ------------------ ABOUT THE PERFORMERS Michelle Ratchford is a tarot reader, among other things, born and raised in metro Detroit. She began dabbling in tarot during covid and leaned into full study when she stumbled upon an apothecary in Mid-Michigan. Having recently moved to Chicago in August of this year, you can reliably find her in pottery studios and anywhere the indigo session is being held. @shelivesinmy Soso is a creative powerhouse and wellness advocate passionate about fostering connection and vulnerability. Based in Chicago, she’s a singer, artist, host of dear diary and founder of Handle with Care. @sosofromthego Aliyah Jones is a vocalist, composer, and writer based in Chicago, IL. The importance of music was instilled in her at an early age. Every milestone, celebration, or simple journey to school was scored with anything from the sultry serenades of Whitney Houston to the invigorating bounce of house music. Aliyah began her formal training at the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artist and most recently graduated from the Jazz Studies program at DePaul University. Her focus is now centered around The Indigo Sessions, a space for those marginalized to tell their stories and share their creations. @indigoesblues
