Biographical / Historical
“UPNORTH, INC.” was incorporated in April, 1971 and served as a food, drink, and entertainment staple of the Gay Chicago Community in the 1970s. Up North hosted drag performances on weekends and major holidays, and featured drag performers such as Sally Rand, among others. Previously located on North Western Avenue in the West Ridge area, Up North went out of business in 1977/78 after a failed move to the Southport area.
