The thematic contents in this collection are primarily concerning National Association of Black and White Men Together, among some other thematic inclusions. This collection includes newspapers, newsletters, meeting notes, financial records, receipts, handwritten and typed correspondence, handwritten notes, invitations, advertisements, travel guides, travel documents, postcards, mortgage loans, school papers, event and conference programs, and ephemera.

Biographical / Historical

Wendell Reid was the co-chair of the National Association of Black and White Men Together [NABWMT] from 2000-2004. NABWMT is “a gay, multiracial, multicultural organization committed to fostering supportive environments wherein racial and cultural barriers can be overcome and the goal of human equality realized. To these ends we engage in educational, political, cultural and social activities as a means of dealing with the racism, sexism, homophobia, HIV/AIDS discrimination and other inequities in our communities and in our lives.” Additionally, Reid was involved with the local Chicago chapter called MACT (Men of All Colors Together) as well as with Horizons Community Services.

Arrangement

This collection had no discernible original order upon acquisition apart from a few arranged folders. The collection has been thematically organized into 19 series between 3 boxes, one series or sub-series per folder. Box 1 contains 12 folder, all containing items not directly related to the NABWMT and its local chapters. Box 2 contains all items related to the NABWMT and its local chapters. Box 3 contains objects acquired with the papers. Within each box, folders are arranged alphabetically, followed by duplicates. Items within folders are arranged by date unless prearranged by the donor.
