Biographical / Historical

Poet, fiction-writer, and pop-culture journalist, Gregg Shapiro is a Chicago native whose works include “Protection,” a collection of poems published in 2008, among other works of fiction and petry. Inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 1999, he is noted as one of Chicago’s leading queer literary figures and is recognized both locally and nationally, his work appearing in more than 50 literary journals and half a dozen anthologies throughout the 80s and 90s. Widely touted for his poetry and fiction writing, Shapiro has been published in several notable local Chicago periodicals, such as Outlines, Nightlines, En La Vida, BLACKlines, and Gay Chicago Magazine, among others. Shapiro is also known as a respected literary and music critic, appearing as a judge for the Gay and Lesbian American Music Awards.
