Biographical / Historical
The Task Force was originally founded as the Gay Task Force of the Alliance to End Repression in 1974 to protest police brutality and reform law enforcement. Later becoming an autonomous organization, the Illinois Gay and Lesbian Task Force (originally called the Illinois Gay Rights Task Force) was formed to support the rights of gay and lesbians in Illinois by monitoring city and state legislative bills (including the long-running campaign to pass an anti-discrimination bill that would make sexual orientation a protected class in Illinois), protest anti-LGBT media coverage, and providing sensitivity training to law enforcement and other officials.
